Dan Siracusa and His Ambulance in Wisconsin

Dan Siracusa

Some of you may recall our old neighbor from back on Lehigh Street in Tamaqua - Dan Siracusa. He lived two doors up from where George Taylor now lives. Dan was a tinkerer - like myself - and we love to swap mechanical stories.

Dan now lives in Wisconsin - and his pride and joy is his 1953 Dodge 4 x 4 military ambulance. He has restored it to perfect condition and puts it in shows and parades.

The Dodge weighs 8000 pounds - gets 10 miles per gallon - about 230 miles range. It has a 230 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine with a waterproof electrical system - which means it could go underwater with a snorkel.

The British take their WWII history very seriously. This place was pummeled by the Germans with both bombs and rockets. There are shrapnel marks in the exterior walls of the building I am sitting in. There is a "bombproof" or air raid shelter in the back yard of almost every building.

There are a lot of trucks similar to Dan's that are restored here so people do not forget what happened back then.

You can contact Dan Siracusa on Facebook.
