Thursday - London - Horniman (Horny-man) Museum

Time for tea with scones - jam and cream - at museum

On Thursday - it was raining. We started out the day by shopping at Primark - a favorite department store that sells really cheap stuff. We bought a big black umbrella for 4 pounds. We headed toward the Aldwych Theatre where the Tina Turner Story play was opening. They had a 4 PM matinee - but it was sold out. With it raining - we got online and looked u some options.

We never heard of the Horniman Museum but decided to go there for 3 reasons - it was raining - it was free - and there would be a long bus ride through the Cockney area of South London.

Frederick Horniman was the owner of the largest tea company in the world in 1900. He was a member of parliament. He was a collector and scientist. When he died he left an 18-acre estate to the city with this marvelous museum.

Because it was rainy - and free - there were a lot of parents there with their little ones. It was like walking into the past with many of the displays looking like have not been touched in 100 years.

There are great museums all over London - most of them are free. This was a good addition to our book.
