Dear FSU Family,
A
few years ago, Florida State University set out to be recognized as one
of the Top 25 public
universities in America. Today, I’m thrilled to share the exciting
news that U.S. News and World Report has ranked FSU No. 18 among all
public universities in the country! We jumped 25 spots over the past
five years — eight places in the past year alone!
That’s an incredible accomplishment!
We’re
one of the fastest rising universities in the nation — and that’s
because our faculty, staff
and students demonstrate a commitment to excellence every day. This
ranking clearly reflects the tremendous value Florida State University
places on student success. Thanks to investments by the Florida
Legislature, the Florida Board of Governors and our
generous donors, we have been able to implement a variety of strategic
initiatives, including hiring more faculty, offering smaller classes and
reducing the faculty-student ratio. As a result, our students are
achieving at the highest levels and graduating
in four years at a rate that is higher than any other university in
Florida and is among the Top 10 in the nation.
We
have achieved this recognition together, and I want to thank every
member of our community for
the role each of you has played. As a token of our appreciation, we
will close the university Friday, Oct. 25, to allow faculty, staff and
students to celebrate our success as we kick off FSU Homecoming
weekend. I hope to see all of you at the parade!
As
we look toward the future, let’s keep reaching higher! I truly believe
there are no limits to what we can accomplish when we work together!
Sincerely,
John Thrasher
