Seminoles Bury Maryland 63-0

Osceola rides in on Renegade and plants the ceremonial spear. Of course the NCAA would like to end that. Now even the President is commenting about using the R-word.

Highway robbery - $57 - for a 4 hour college football game. They wonder why they can't fill the stadium. With HDTV - for me - I think you see it better on TV. Section 30 is the 10 yard line. We paid $10.

We invited neighbors George and Joel to go along with us to the game in our camper. Daytime games at Tallahassee are really hot - and yesterday was no exception.

We packed our food and drinks in the camper. Then we left our home at 10 AM in the camper. We drove south to Orange Avenue - then north on Lake Bradford - then finally west on Jackson Bluff to our parking spot at the Wigwam - about one block south of the stadium. Joe Shiver - one of our builders - owns a large building there - and allowed us to park and party there. It is a really nice spot and very convenient to the stadium.

After we parked - we set up the two table inside the camper. We turned on the roof fan and opened the windows. We could have run the generator and air conditioner - but did not to be noisy. Joel's casserole  was great - and Lulu's other fixings made for a nice meal.

At 11:30 - we walked to the stadium for tickets. Lulu thought we would pay more for tickets - but there were plenty on hand for $10 each. I tried to get 4 together for $10 each - and found 4 - but they were facing the sun. We settled for 2 and 2 - with the sun at our back - and down very close between the 10 yard lines. Lulu and I stayed there the whole game - but George and Joel found a shady spot up behind us. Now I wish we tried too - because there were plenty of shady seats - and we got too much sun. You know you are dehydrated when you do not visit the bathroom for a whole 4 hour game.

That one little square is what was left of the Maryland fans.

The Seminoles played very well - or the Maryland Terps were not as good as their 4-0 record indicated.  Jamis Winston - FSU's phenom quarterback threw 5 touchdown passes that totaled 400 yards. Fsu scored 30 points in the last quarter - and it had some Maryland fans crying running up the score. Since Maryland quit the ACC for next year - it was probably a send off party. As Bobby Bowden once said when a coach complained to him about a high score - it is not my job to stop my team from scoring - it is your all job.

These two kids had more fun stacking water bottles on their $57 seats.

The Paper claims that 72000 tickets were sold - and I would have to say if that is true - half of them stayed home. Since you are allowed to sell tickets at all Florida events - supply and demand sets the price. Tickets had $57 on the face - but I would have been cranky if I could only get $10 for a ticket I paid hundreds for when you include the seat license fees etc.

We were on the 10 yard line and we had a whole row of empty seats in front of us. If FSU and Miami are still undefeated in 3 weeks - I finally expect seats to sell for over face value.

In front of us was a weekend father and his two kids. The kids seemed more content gathering empty water bottles and stacking them on the empty seats in front of us. I did not have the heart to tell him we only paid $10 - but if he have asked.....

After the game - we walked just one block back to the camper - pulled out - and were home as the clock struck 4 PM. Lulu and I each picked out a sofa and watched the game again. We were both worn out - and fell asleep a few times during the playback - waking up to loud commercials and time to fas forward to further action.

Later in the evening - I put the camper in it metal barn - ready for our next adventure. Lulu already has visions of going to the ACC championship game in Charlotte. Last years they played that game to a 3/4 full stadium - while the SEC played to a full house in Georgia where tickets were going for upwards of $500. So I guess we know which conference rules in Dixie.

Maryland joined the Big 10 for next season - can't blame them. Their program was hemorrhaging money. They TV money will really help things out. They get to play Penn State - Ohio State - among others. They will still line up plenty of cupcakes - just like FSU.

FSU must play and beat Clemson - Miami - Florida - to have a chance at the big dance. Clemson will show if we are pretenders. they are a tough team - in a tough stadium - with a Heisman quality quarterback. FSU has two weeks to prepare. We will be in Richmond - watching the game with our two sons - their wives - the grandkids. Lulu will fly to the DC area for 4 days - then drive to Richmond and pick me up at the airport. We will fly home on Sunday.
