It is Garry's 58th birthday - Lulu made some brownies and Gary blew out the candle. All of a sudden there were 12 workmen to finish off the brownies and cookie.
Monday - Happy Birthday to Gary. He is 58 today. After 20 years of using the same truck - he got a brand new white Ford F150. Pictures later.
It was a bustling day today. It started out with Josh and Gary Wayne doing the outside window treatment. The window frames are mainly a Hardiboard - a cornice - and a big Pennsylvania Keystone above each of the 28 windows. While that was going on - Joe and Gary were boxing in the beams on the front and back porch. As you can see - we were able to re-cycle the ends of the porch's 10 foot ceiling beach boards. We turned them over - bead board side hidden - and nailed them up.
The insulation men came for the second day. They completed about ½ of the attic insulation. The roof insulation is supposed to be 6 inches "nominally." But in the end it is really thick - many places over 8 inches. We do not trim of the excess insulation here - we let is hang like foamy snow.
A big load of drywall "sheetrock" arrived along with 80 bags of mud to cover the drywall. That seemed like a lot.
A very happy paint crew arrived and stained the front and back porch ceilings using Minwax medium oak oil stain. That stuff will make anyone happy.
Finally the gas men dropped by to hook up the new fireplace. This fireplace vents out through a pipe in the concrete.

Icynee Open Cell Foam Insulation - in all the wall - all the roof - and over the porch ceilings. It makes a giant envelope to keep in and out - depending what you want.
This picture shows the area above the porch ceilings. It looks like a scene form Doctor Zhivago in there.
The painters are apply a coat of oil stain to the porch ceiling. The will be covered by a coat of clear glossy varnish.
I never knew they used so much plaster to drywall a house - like 80 bags.
At 5 PM - as the sun set - our new home looks like this.
When applying open cell foam insulation on the ceiling - one must be careful to stay away from the spray. This video ends abruptly when I got too close - it started to feel like rain. This stuff is potent - I got it in my hair - clothes - glasses - and camera. It took about an hour to clean the camera - it was metal. Unfortunately my glasses must be plastic because I can't get the little white dots off my lenses.
Icynene brand open cell foam insulation covers the roof from 6 to 10 inches thick. I contracted for 6 inches - the rest is a bonus. Icynene has an R value of 5 per inch. 10 inches would be about R50. The Icynene has a built-in coating so that it does not have to be sealed. We are covering it by drywall - even in the attic.
