Lulu Scores Fantastic Dinette on Craigslist
Lulu loves to hunt for bargains. Since we bought the extra property - she has been on a whirlwind shopping expedition. Today she landed a big one.
It is the time of the year when the students are going home for the summer. They are eager to sell their furniture and get on the road. Most of the furniture is junk - but every now and then you find a gem.
Lulu saw a teak dinette set on Craigslist advertised for $200. She jotted off an offer of $100 and the seller said okay. I figured when we would get there - we would find a pile of junk - not so.
The student just graduated from law school and was in a hurry to sell everything. He was moving to Syracuse where he landed a big job with "The Firm." The kid said the dinette was his mother's - and he had it in his apartment here for 3 years.
The dinette was a little dirty but in excellent condition. Lulu's eyes perked up and we quickly paid the guy and loaded our booty into the truck.
It is a 9 piece set made of 100% teak wood. It had the company's name stamped on the bottom and we looked it up on the net. The table cost $1900 and the 6 chairs cost $1200. The two giant leaves store inside the table when you open it up. So it cost $3100 plus tax and shipping and it took 16 weeks to built from the time you ordered it. This is all on the net.
We cleaned it up and then rubbed the wood down with Wesson oil - to freshen up the teak. It will spend the rest of its days in the brick house down the street.
Some people like to raise a garden - some folks like to fish. Some people have pictures taken with their trophy pumpkins or bonefish. We like to display our bargains. Lulu landed a trophy and another story to tell.
