The House Project Today

Lulu and I bought a 250 x 210 lot just 5 doors down the street. It has an old brick ranch home on it. We are renovating the old brick home - but are main goal is to build a new home on the lot. I have been cleaning it up a bit in the last few weeks.

So far - new paint inside and out - new windows coming - new lights - new outlets and switches. Shampooing carpets.

The house is strong - brick walls are 6 inches thick. It is on a concrete slab that is raised form the ground with a crawl space for heat/ac - plumbing. It has a big carport and two brick out buildings. there is a long driveway and parking lot on the north side of the building.

Address is 1816 Seminole Drive.

This is looking north in the back of the lot. That area is 120 feet x 210 feet. If we put the house where the middle tree is - it  would face south and be completely hidden from the street.
Mud room - door goes to car port - could be third bedroom.
Dining room facing east. Nancy got chandelier for over her dinette.

Dining room has two built-in corner cabinets
Bead board back porch ceiling - vent is from attic with full house fan.

Bedroom - awning windows will be replaced by white single hung windows with grids. Note old white heater hole - it will be filled by brick.
Side view of the old summer kitchen.

This is looking northeast from where the new house would be. The brick house would be hidden by a 6 foot high fence.

Large back yard - site of new home.
This will be the view down to Seminole Drive from the front doot of the new house - if we face it that direction.
Back of house - note the barbecue fireplace.
Small summer kitchen with water - sewer - gas. All windows crank open. We store furniture here now.

Back porch. Varnished door. Pantry and hall inside door.

Bedroom and south  side.

Old heater hole will be bricked shut. Brick and mortar ready.

Vent above range is vented out the roof.

Kitchen - wood original cabinets painted white. Black and white tile. Linoleum floor. Washer and dryer outlets.

Back bedroom. Two closets - two windows. Ray's old bedroom set.

There was an old heater in this hole. It will be bricked on the outside - dry walled inside. Note the bricks are 6 inches thick. Even the walls between the rooms are block with plaster over them.

Each bedroom has two walk-in closets. Also each bedroom has windows on two sides.

Living room - carpet will be stretched - shampooed. New lights for fan. All lights - switches - outlets - and wallplates will be replaced with white ones.

Notice the original tile floor. Windows will be replace with two single hung windows. Door was spar varnished.

Front view of house - the old windows will be gone. New white single hung windows with lattice work will replace them. The new windows will be high energy factor - and argon filled.

Yesterday I built the columns from 60 year old pine boards that were shelves in the shed. they will be caulked and painted white. They cover the old metal work ones.
