You may remember Jean Charles - 10 years ago he rented our old brick house from us. He was a new doctoral student at Florida State University - I picked him up at the airport straight form France and brought him to his new college home. He is a very industrious man - commuted 4 years by bicycle to campus on a bike I bought on Craigslist list for $35. He came to town with a $3000 racing bike - but I warned him that it would last maybe a week on campus due to bike theft.
One time - for my birthday - JC made me the most wonderful French Apple Tart. Later - he came to Lulu's new kitchen to teach her how to do it.
JC completed his degree and took an assistant professor's job at Ball State University in Muncie - Indiana. When he left Tallahassee - I never expected to see him again. His family lives here in France north of Paris towards the coast.
I decided to email him to see if he was in France for the summer. He wrote back to say he was married and would be in Paris on July 9 to 11. He also gave us the good news that he is married. His wife's name is Jen and she is a physical therapist. They are on their honeymoon.
They are staying at a hotel near The Louvre - so Lulu and I scouted out a nice place to take them to lunch. It was 4 miles from our apartment so we took an uber car. We found a wonderful French restaurant called the Loup.
Next day - we met at their hotel - and walked into the Loup which means wolf. I was hoping they did not have it on the menu.
First - we ordered Loup Champagne - to celebrate their wedding. They had a big wedding in Indianapolis on June 25th - one day after our 50th anniversary. They met on an online dating site - and have been dating for 2 years. They have purchased a home in Muncie - and will return home - after having a second big reception in JC's old hometown here. During their trip here - they have also had an audience with the Pope in Italy. One of the main things they both checked off on the online dating application is both being strong Catholics.
It was so much fun meeting up with JC and his new wife. It is ironic that we just celebrated such a milestone - and they are starting out just a day later. We all just gabbed and gabbed like we were all together forever. After a couple hours - and a few pictures - we hugged and left - on our separate adventures.
Jean Charles LeBeau has a PhD in Sports Psychology. Florida State is well known for their graduates from this program. When JC was in Tallahassee - I helped him buy a car (Toyota Corolla) that he used for many years. I also gave him that $35 bike. He told me that 10 years later - he is still riding that bike to campus. I reminded him no one would ever steal it.
