Penn State Pretzels in London

As we travel - it seems to be getting harder and harder to find good pretzels. More and more people are buying chips that can be dipped in salsa. Hopefully when we get to Germany - there will be a better pretzel selection.

We did find something that gave us a chuckle and a taste of home from back in the hills of Pennsylvania. They are called, "Penn State Original Sea Salted Pretzels." I am sure they have never gotten near Pennsylvania - but at least the name was funny. They do eat a lot of Pretzels in Pennsylvania - there is a large German heritage in South and Eastern Keystoneland. Philadelphia is famous for soft street pretzels.

The Penn State pretzels taste great - but the neatest part is their marketing. If you go to their web site - www.pennstate.co.uk - the fun begins. On the web site - you can meet Penn State employees - go to their facebook pages - and talk to them. There are even neat little pretzel computer games. In one game you are a bartender and your job is to keep the customers pretzel bowls full. A custom in some Pennsylvania bars is to serve free pretzels. Pretzels being salty make you drink more beer.

This is probably the future way to market products. Not only is their a strong internet presence - you have a feeling of being part of the company action. You develop brand loyalty. I love the motto, "Baked with an Authentic American Recipe." To be really authentic they should include a pair of Joe Paterno "coke bottle" glasses in each bag.
