1990 Citroen 2CV (deux châveau means 2 horses) |
The Citroen 2CV is a tiny car - smaller than a VW Beetle. It was built in Paris after World War II. They needed a cheap - simple - dependable car to get around in the farmers' fields.
It was very innovative for its time. It had a 2 cylinder gasoline engine that was air-cooled. The engine powered the front wheels. The suspension was very cushy - provided by springs and shock absorbers connecting the front and rear wheels. The top can be rolled back to carry large cargo.
They started making the car in 1948 - my birth year - and continued the same model until 1990. The one pictured above is the Charleston. Lulu likes the color scheme because the red color matches her FSU clothes.
It is a standard transmission. The gear shifter is on the dashboard. The car only weighs 1300 pounds.
Every time we go to Paris to see the kids - I threaten to bring one home. You have to jump thru a lot of hoops to import it - shipping - appeasing customs - and safety regulations. When I commented on the Citroen Newsgroup - someone told me they had one in Kansas. Isn't it beautiful?
