There were 2 free Tesla Destination Chargers at this Hilton Tru Hotel in Florence SC. They were slower than Superchargers but free. |
It is about 1100 miles from Tamaqua PA to Tallahassee FL. In the old days we would sometimes do that trip non-stop. Now we normally take 3 days to make the trip. Because Lulu likes to be in Tallahassee for her first day of school at FSU - we decided to drive it in 2 days this time.
Monday morning we left town at 8 AM - we drove all the way to Florence SC - about 600 miles. We stayed at a Hilton Tru Hotel there because it has 2 destination Tesla chargers. They are not as fast as Tesla Superchargers - but they are free of charge. It is like someone giving you $20 just for stopping by. You do not even have to book into the hotel.
Tuesday - we drove from about 9 AM to 5 PM - for the last 500 miles.
We did hit a lot of rain on both days - but traffic was reasonable - no traffic jams.
Here are the towns we charged the Tesla -
1. Bealeton VA - $17
2. Rocky Mount NC - $19
3. St George SC - $20
4. Jacksonville FL $17
5. Lake City FL - $7
Total cost = $80
When you charge at home you only pay about 10 cents a KWH which is 3 cents a mile. When you charge at a Supercharger you pay about 30 cents per KWH. This is why you charge at home as much as you can.
We had a great trip. The car was packed full with stuff for the wedding.
I am getting old - but I think the next trip to Pennsylvania will be in a jet.
We used the autopilot about 95% of the time. Lulu did a big share of the driving.
The $80 cost for the trip home did not include the free charge I got at the Florence Hilton.
We are safely home - we have a few days to pack for the 45 day trip to Australia.
