Dancing and Singing On The Bridge Of Avignon - South of France

The Bridge of Avignon followed the
Roman Highway across the Rhone River

It was built in the 1200s - it was 22 arches.
Now only 4 arches are left.

The bridge was 3000 feet long and 15 feet wide.
Floods washed away almost 90% of it.

First it was a wood bridge in the 1100s. Then in the 1200s it was made of stone - 3000 feet long - 15 feet wide - and 22 arches. Throughout the years - the flooding Rhone River would knock over sections. Finally in the 1700s they stopped repairing it.

It became famous again - by a song about Dancing and Singing - "On the Bridge of Avignon." Now it is a UNESCO World History Site. Also - the Papal Palace and Cathedral are being restored as part of that same site.

We have been having very hot weather - 100 degrees for 3 days in a row. We have a pool to cool us off. But we come back to the apartment from noon to three to enjoy the AC and get a nap - siesta.

We will be in the South of France until Aug 21st. Then back to Paris - enough time to do the laundry. Lulu and I like London more than any other tourist stop. It has so many good memories for us there. Lulu taught summers there for 10 years. Our family and friends visited us many times there. We know the language sorta. We like the history and the theatre shows there. I really like the food. The museums and pubs are fun. Do not even get me started about the cars - scooters - and bikes. Double decker red buses - black cabs - and the Tube are just so civilized.

London has opened up to Americans that have proof of covid vaccines. You must be tested before you come in - no quarantine. Lulu has already booked our Eurostar tickets thought the tunnel - and booked us a suite at the Residence Inn London Bridge. We will then train back to Paris and fly home to Tallahassee before September 1. Our 60 days will be over.
