Download Pictures from Camera to Computer Wirelessly

I love taking digital photos and enjoy putting them on my web page and in emails. But sometimes it is a pain in the butt to take the RAM chip out of the camera - put it in a reader - and download the pictures to the computer by hand. Even with a USB cord - it is tedious.

On Father's Day - Lulu got me this cute little gift. It looks like a regular RAM chip - except it has a little radio in it that sends the pictures to your camera using wi-fi. The product is called "Eye-Fi."

All you have to do is put the "Eye-Fi" RAM chip in your camera like a regular SD RAM card. Then you load a piece of software into your computer. That's all there is to it. Next time you take a picture or video - it goes right into your computer.

If you are far away from your computer or home - the camera will send the pictures to a web page of your choice through a regular wi-fi hot spot. You may be sitting in a restaurant - and your camera could be sending pictures to a web page for your friends to see. There is even an App for your iphone that can receive the pictures from your camera.

Another neat feature is that Eye-Fi tags the pictures - it shows you the location where the photo was taken on google maps.

Many folks will say - big deal. But if you take a lot of pictures and videos - you can see the value of this cute little device.

At first - I did not think it worked with my Canon G9 camera - but then I read the directions - about two months later.

Eye-Fi costs $99.
