Friday In The Big Apple
One of the neatest things about NYC is all the specialty stores. This one sold nothing but Spandex - I was not even sure what Spandex was.
Thursday night we spent at the Wyndham on 35th St. We had enough points for a free night - ironically we got those points from a free night Lulu spent at Charlotte Airport. The Wyndham is 18 stories tall - each story has only 6 rooms - we were in 1702. It is a tiny hotel by New York standards.
I was startled to see the outside of St Patrick's Cathedral so clean and white. It must have cost millions to clean it up. It used to be so shabby covered with soot.
At 5PM - we had supper with Keith and Liz. Then we went to two basketball games at the Madison Square Garden. Keith had great tickets - Georgetown won the first game - Duke the second. We will see the winners play each other Sunday - then take the train to Washington.
Today - Saturday - we will fill time with shows and shopping. From 1994 to 2004 - Lulu was a professor at St John's University in NYC. She became quite familiar with the city. At the time we used to own a motor home - and she would drive it from Tamaqua to New York City. She would stay in the camper right on campus a couple nights - and then head home for 5 day weekends.

Homecoming With The Boys At Doak Campbell Stadium
Watch that lefty throw. Lulu got a great parking place - and the kids got to throw the football in the same place they did - back in 1988 - this time there were 3 sons.
We were able to get 7 seats together for this view of a touchdown. Noles won 34-17. We had a blast.

The truth be told - Lulu is a holiday nut - but she hates spending one without family. When son Keith invited us north to see a basketball tournament in NYC - we were off to the races. We had some FF miles to spend - and now we had a reason to go north.
We flew from Tallahassee to Charlotte - then Charlotte to Newark - yesterday. A $9 train got us from the airport to Penn Station on 34th St. Our Wyndham Hotel is on 35th Street - just one block north. We got this hotel for free. On Lulu's last trip to Kuwait - she was delayed in Charlotte a night. The hotel had no heat all night - she complained - they comped her points - enough for this room. The rack rate here is $279 - so we are ahead. It reminds me of that guy who 4 years ago said "winning!" - when he hid from the world that he had AIDS.

Noles Versus Nichols State
Just put the boys on the jet home. We landed two court side seats for first basketball game. They retired Coach Hamilton's jersey.
FSU won 109 - 52!
We bought two great sets outside for $10 each - second row across from team bench.
The Seminole have scored 109 or better in each of the first 3 games.

Seminole Wins 34-17 - We Had A Great Tailgate Spot and Party

We left the house at 10:30 with George and Joel in their van. Lulu landed the most fabulous parking spot - right next to the stadium. Slot number 99. We had a tailgate party with a menu of fried chicken - slaw - and beans.
Like old times - we tossed a football. This time grandson Jack was the star. We shopped for tickets - there were plenty. We paid $20 each for 6 - I got one free for myself. We could have paid less but we wanted seats together.
The score was tied 17-17 at the half - but then FSU shut out the Wolfpack in the second half. It was a sunny day - luckily our seats were in a shady area. The Seminoles are now 8-2 - hoping for a decent bowl game. They still must play Chattanooga and the Gators in the Swamp.
After the game - we zoomed right home.

My 3 Sons Are Here - Homecoming in Tallahassee

Jack and Drew flew from Richmond to Charlotte to Tallahassee. They got here at 5:30. Keith flew from Washington to Jacksonville - and took a rental car here - he got here around 7:30. We had supper together.
Then Keith and Lulu went to the Pow Wow to see Amy Schumer. Drew - Jack - and I first went to the volleyball game where FSU beat Notre Dame 3-0. Then we walked to the soccer game where FSU advanced to the NCAA second round by beating the University of Evanston - 3-0.
After that we enjoyed the hot tub and had some of Lulu's homemade chocolate pie.
Weather is in the 60s and no rain. It looks like a perfect day for the homecoming game versus North Carolina State tomorrow at 12:30. You can look for us on TV.
Lulu landed a wonderful parking space - number 99. We did not buy game tickets yet. Does anyone have 7 seats together in section 33 :-)
Lulu Landed A Golden Chiefs Parking Pass
Our 3 sons are flying in for Homecoming today. We will all be attending the North Carolina State at FSU football game. We do not have game tickets yet - but that does not stop Lulu from landing one of the best tailgating spots on the planet. We will be parked right next to the stadium in the Golden Chiefs parking lot. To park here - one must normally pay a $25,000 contribution to the boosters - but there are ways around that. Game tickets are the easy part - a nice place to have our party - is the hard part. Lulu has taken care of that. My job is to get 6 tickets - the 5 Everharts - and the 2 Dawsons are depending on it.
Lulu also got some tickets to see the Amy Schumer Show at the Pow Wow tonight at the Civic Center

Jimbo Fisher Call-In Show At Four Points Hotel
Every Wednesday night at 7 PM - FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher has a call-in television show. For an hour he answer questions over the telephone and also from folks that come to watch. I am guessing there were 300 people there tonight. during the commercial break Jimbo poses for pictures and also signs anything you have.
During the last two season - the Seminoles have been undefeated in the regular season. In 2013 - they were national champions. This year their record is currently 7 - 2. This weekend they play North Carolina State for Homecoming. My 3 sons are coming to town for the game.
I am home now and it is 8:15. Just 30 minutes ago - Jimbo posed for this picture with us.

Lulu came into the main offices here at EFCFO at lunch with two tangerines that had fallen from our tree. We had not picked any tangerines yet because they were not a bright orange color. We tried them out for lunching - here is the results. The oranges and tangerines are ours. The blueberries and bananas are Public.
My three sons are coming on Friday for Homecoming. We will see FSU play North Carolina State. Also Lulu has some tickets for the Pow Wow - where Amy Schumer is headlining.

40 Years Ago Today - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

The Edmund Fitzgerald was built to be just one foot shorter than the length of a ship allowed to go through the Saint Lawrence Seaway - 729 feet. It was the largest ship ever sunk by the weather in the Great Lakes. The ship was made famous by the song by Canadian - Gordon Lightfoot. In the song he describes the "Witch of November" - the formidable storms of the fall that can produce 65 miles per hour winds and up to 50 foot high waves.
The ship was hauling 26000 tons of iron ore pellets from Wisconsin to Detroit. 40% of all Great Lakes' shipwrecks occur in November.
The ship is lying on the bottom - broken into two large pieces with a pile of iron ore pellets between the pieces - covered by 500 feet of water.
At that time in 1975 - depth finding was still done by throwing a rope over the side with a sinker on it - and then counting the number of knots on the rope - one knot for each 6 feet of depth - a fathom.
The insurance company paid off a claim of $26 million for the wreck. 29 crew members all died.
In 1913 - a hurricane sunk 19 ships in Lake Huron - killing 254 persons. No one wrote a song about that.
