TAMAQUA - A 1 1/2-year-old child carrying a toy gun forced an uneasy situation Thursday afternoon at Tamaqua Area High School.
Police from Tamaqua and Rush Township responded to the incident, which occurred just before the Tamaqua-Pottsville varsity swim meet. Swimmers, coaches, officials and fans were kept in the pool area under lockdown for several minutes until the incident was resolved. No one was hurt.
"A grandparent made the mistake of allowing his grandson to bring a toy gun into the school," Tamaqua Area Superintendent Carol Makuta said. "Someone saw it and the police were contacted. They immediately responded, identified the person and handled it effectively and efficiently."
