Dallas and the Texas School Book Depository On The Way To Brazil

Find the red brick Texas School Book Depository and the Triple Underpass where President Kennedy was shot in 1963. (lower left corner) He was almost out of town on the way to Love Field to fly home on Air Force 1. Oswald shot him from the last building on the parade route before the motorcade got to the expressway.

We were scheduled to fly to Miami on the way to Rio - but our jet had mechanical troubles. So Thursday they re-routed us to fly through Dallas. It was such a clear day on Thursday - even with my little Canon snapshot camera - I got this great picture.

If you put an imaginary clock face on the picture - at about 8 o'clock - is a red/orange brick building about 7 stories high. This is the Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald lay in waiting with a mail order rifle to kill President Kennedy. The sixth floor of that building has been made into a museum - complete with boxes of school books piled into a pillbox - scraps from a fast food lunch - an a view from the infamous window.

You can also see the triple overpass - where the railroad crosses over 3 streets squeezed together. In the shadow on this picture between the building and the bridge is Zapruder filmed the event live with his Bell & Howell movie from the grassy knoll.

After the damage was done - the convertible carrying his lifeless body sped onto that expressway on the left to the hospital.

I was in 10th grade at the time - watching the event in the study hall of the old Tamaqua High School on High Street. In 1963 - we JFK probably never even heard of the Beatles. This is what I think of when flying into Dallas.
