Cologne

Today we traveled by train from Stuttgart to Cologne. Cologne has a famous cathedral. It jumps out at you when you come out of the train station. The cathedral is really huge. According to Wikipedia it took over 600 years to build (1248-1880) and was the world's largest building from 1880-1884. We didn't get to tour the cathedral until after we went to the University of Cologne and met with other Library Science professors. They all have an interest in working with U.S. faculty. Our guide Brigitte from the Goethe Institute has been great - arranging all our travel and housing. It' also pretty good to have a translator travel with you at all times. I'm really enjoying how the Germans stay to a schedule and time limits. Everyone in our U.S. group is doing the same and it makes for a very enjoyable atmosphere. Tomorrow we must get up early and go to Berlin. I will miss the Trailing Spouse on this part of the trip especially since I know he really wants to visit Berlin. I'll take a lot of pictures for him.
