Gene Snisky - He Was One of My 7th Grade Science Students

My former student - Gene Snisky - flying thru the air

I taught science in Panther Valley - Carbon County - Pennsylvania for 33 years. A favorite student of mine is Gene Snisky. He later was an all-state football player in high school. He earned a scholarship to play for the University of Missouri. But I love remembering him fly thru the air in the wrestling ring. He is truly larger than life.

We Ordered a New Pergola from Costco

Pergola from Costco

We have lulu's new pool almost 2 years. She uses it faithfully almost every day. But for me - the water is fine - kept at roughly 88 degrees by the sun - but sitting out on a hot day - really makes my face red. I don't like lathering up with sun lotion. So I thought a little manmade shade would fill the bill.

We ordered this shade - they call it a pergola - sounds too fancy for me. It is scheduled to arrive on August 22nd. It is essentially a kit that weighs about 600 pounds - it comes in 6 boxes. It is all aluminum with stainless steel bolts and screws. No cutting required. Sort of like legos.

It is 20 feet long x 10 feet wide x 8 feet tall. The roof is waterproof with drains that go down the 6 posts.  The top can be cranked open to almost any angle - providing a little shade or 100% blackout. Each post is anchored to the concrete with several stainless steel bolts. It is supposed to be hurricane proof - Florida will be a good test. The reviews on it are good. Wish me luck assembling it.

This will provide a place to keep my red nose out of the sun when I sit out there reading or napping.
