In 1964 - I was 16. The Beach Boys were singing about riding a Little Honda. There was a dealer selling Honda Scooters in Still Creek PA. I was working delivering milk for Heisler's Dairy in the morning for $1 an hour. I worked from 5 am to 7 am - and then rode my new scooter to the high school.
The scooter was officially called the Honda 50 Cub. It held two people and went 45 mph. It got 200 miles per gallon of gasoline. You kick started it - it had 3 speeds and no clutch. You could push start it too.
I drove it for 2 years - going to NYC - Philly - Asbury Park NJ - Gettysburg - Wilmington DE - Chinoteague VA. In the summer of 1966 - I sold it to buy a 1956 VW Convertible.
The Honda Cub 50 has become the most popular vehicle ever made - according to total sales. They still make it today. They have sold 100 million and counting.
