Sunday morning at 5 AM - sunrise from our ship off the coast of Seattle.

We are back in Seattle now - Sunday morning - sitting in a bar in the Marriot Inn - with free wifi. Our cruise is over but our flight home to Tallahassee does not leave here until 11 PM. We have a place to stash our luggage - so we will be touring the town a bit.

Our cruise was a busy 7 days.
Sunday - Seattle
Monday - along Canadian Coast
Tuesday - Juneau
Wednesday - Skagway
Thursday - Glacier Bay
Friday - Ketchikan
Saturday - Victoria - Canada
Sunday - Seattle

Parliament - just before we walked back to the ship.

I can't help bragging about the marvelous weather we had. The captain was saying we were lucky because many cruises just get fogged in and see nothing. We had lots of sun - warm days - no wind - temps in the 60s and 70s - no rain.

Norwegian Cruise Line did a great job. It was nice having a glass door and balcony. I would not purchase it for other cruises - but when they offered it for a deep discount - to see all the mountains and glaciers - I am glad we bought it.

Last night from 6 to 12 we were in Victoria. This is the capital of British Columbia. What a nice walking town. It was Saturday night - and in the summer in Victoria that means "cruise night." Not ship cruises but car cruises. Everyone in the area takes their old cars to downtown to cruise up and down the main streets.

This morning at dawn - we pulled into Seattle.

Alaska is a gigantic state. We barely scratched the Panhandle of this state that is over twice as big as Texas. We saw mountains as high as 15,000 feet. We cruised in some of the longest fjords in the world - some 2000 feet deep. We saw dozens of gigantic glaciers - some we even saw them move as they calved off icebergs. The whole week was a nice pause of the already sweltering Florida 80s and 90s.

Floats planes in Alaska are a way of life. Two towns Skagway and Haines are 14 miles apart - 6 hours by highway - a couple of minutes by float plane.

The lumberjack competition is both funny and entertaining.

Cross cut saws - chain saws - axes - the secret is a sharp blade.

Log riding - where the loser really loses - humiliating

These ducks and go on land and sea

Downtown Ketchikan can be a tourist trap - if you allow it. I did not buy a thing the whole trip.

All smiles after a beer in this really nice bar in Victoria.

Cruise night in Victoria in front of the Parliament Building
The Empress Hotel on the water in Victoria would be a cool vacation.

British Columbia is a big province. Their capital is in Victoria on Vancouver Island.

Note the British Columbia Coat of Arms.
