ESPN and the Dallas Cowboys have tabbed Florida State and Oklahoma State for the 2014 Cowboys Classic and announced an extension of their agreement to bring a top college football game to the club's Cowboys Stadium on Labor Day weekend through 2024. The Seminoles and Cowboys will meet in prime time on Saturday, Aug. 30 in Arlington, Texas.
"We are pleased to be playing Oklahoma State and with the exposure the game will provide our program and our university," said Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman. "I know that our fans will be excited about visiting Texas Stadium and the Dallas area. It is a football venue that is second to none.
"The announcement of this game is timely for Florida State in that we have in the past few weeks begun a determined effort to regularly schedule high profile non-conference football opponents. We are in the preliminary stages of exploring both home-and-home and neutral site games with prominent programs in the near future."
This will be the fifth time Florida State and Oklahoma State have faced each other and the first since the 1985 Gator Bowl, a 34-23 Florida State victory. FSU holds an all-time edge of 3-1 in the series. This will be the first time the Seminoles have played a game in the state of Texas since the 1992 Cotton Bowl, a 10-2 win over Texas A&M.
"We are excited to face Oklahoma State in Cowboys Stadium," said FSU Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. "We have wanted to step up our schedule and improve our strength of schedule and this game gives us a great non-conference opponent. To be able to open up our season at Cowboys Stadium will be a great experience for our players and fans. We are happy for the opportunity to be involved and are looking forward to the game."
ESPN and the Cowboys kicked off their relationship in 2009 with No. 20 BYU beating No. 3 Oklahoma 14-13 in the inaugural Cowboys Classic. This season's showdown saw then-No. 2 Alabama beat No. 8 Michigan 41-14 on its way to a Discover BCS National Championship appearance against Notre Dame (January 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes and WatchESPN).
