In the summer of '69 - I met Lulu - the love of my life at the Bungalow Pool. I was a life guard - she was the pretty little teenie bopper in a bikini. Two years later - we eloped to Miami Beach - and started a life together. Two years after putting up housekeeping in a little apartment downtown we bought a lot on a hill overlooking the pool - bought a cedar kit - and literally built our dream home and love nest. While attending Kutztown College - Lulu served her summers as a life guard at the same pool. When our sons - Drew and Keith - came along we were able to watch them play basketball at the park from our front porch. A few years later both of the boys served as life guards at the same pool. Finally - in 2004 - when Lulu became a professor at Florida State University - we sold the chalet and moved to Tallahassee. Every now and the we visit the Bungie. This story will end when we pass on - our loved ones will sprinkle a few ashes there - on the exact post where we met.
Don Serfass - one of our former employees at The Tamaqua Paper - wrote this history of the Bungalow.
