Me - Lulu - Liz (Keith's girlfriend) - Keith - Drew (R was watching Jack so Drew could attend) - ask me about the deals we got on tuxedos :-)

Tuesday night - the American Library Association had an inauguration ball for the incoming officers. Lulu was sworn in as president of the American Association of School Librarians. Very simply - she said it is one of the best days of her life. She is not one to be over dramatic - so you can appreciate how big a deal it is to us.

The ball was held next to the Washington Convention Center in the Renaissance Hotel. 22,000 librarians had gathered for their annual summer convention - this time they used the powerful numbers to lobby Congress for support of school and public libraries. About 500 stayed until the last day to celebrate the incoming officers.

Our sons Keith and Drew took time out of their busy schedules to see their Mom begin her new term. Liz Askew - Keith's girlfriend - also enjoyed the night and felt right at home with all the book lovers. Wayne and Shirley Wiegand - routed their road trip through Washington just to be there. Corinne Jorgenson - the Assistant Dean of the FSU Library School - attended as well. Melissa Johnston - one of Lulu's promising doctoral students also shared in the celebration.

For the next year - Lulu will be traveling all over the USA to visit exemplary school libraries. Each state has selected a fine example of School Library Leadership that will highlight the Vision Tour.

This must be important. On a normal day - about 100 people look at my web page to see what is going on. Today - so far - 1361 have tuned in to this page to see what is going on with Lulu.

As Lulu and I were walking back to our hotel - we looked a sight. I felt like Prince Charming and she looked like Cinderella. It was getting late - as the clock approached 12 - I was afraid it would all end and I would turn into a pumpkin. One shining moment - Hail to the Chief!
